The three levels of a KYC check
Casinos check identity in levels, and most players only ever meet the first one or two.
Level 1: who you are. A government photo ID: passport, driver's licence or provincial ID card. Often with a selfie, sometimes holding the ID.
Level 2: where you live. A proof of address issued in the last three months: a utility bill, a bank or credit card statement, or a government letter. A screenshot of a banking app is often refused; a PDF statement is usually accepted.
Level 3: where the money came from. Asked mainly for large deposits or withdrawals: a payslip, a bank statement, an exchange statement showing the crypto purchase, or wallet records.
When the check comes
The casinos on our board write it in different ways. Rocketpot says verification may be required above 0.05 BTC or $2,500 (clause 11.4). Bitcasino.io says withdrawals above €2,500 may face extra checks. Most others, including Vave (clause 8.7), Shuffle (clause 4.1) and DuckDice, keep the right to ask at any time. The full comparison is on our no KYC casinos page.
In practice the check most often comes at the first withdrawal, a large withdrawal, or a change of withdrawal address.
How to pass on the first try
- Register with your legal name and real date of birth. A mismatch with your ID is the hardest problem to fix later.
- Photograph documents flat, in daylight, with all four corners visible. No cropping, no glare, no filters.
- Use a recent proof of address with your name and the same address you gave the casino.
- Upload through the casino's verification page. Many casinos use an outside verification service; that is normal.
- If you deposited from an exchange, keep its statement in case the casino asks where the coins came from.
- Answer quickly. A request left unanswered keeps the withdrawal waiting.
What a casino may also ask
- A photo of the card or wallet used to deposit, for fiat payments.
- A video call, at some casinos, for large withdrawals.
- Confirmation of your country of residence, for example from your ID or address proof.
If the check stalls
Ask support in writing what is missing, and keep the conversation. If the casino says a document was rejected, ask why and send a better version rather than the same one. If nothing moves for weeks, the casino's licensing authority is the next step; its name is in the casino's footer, and our reviews list it.

Part of our guides series. A casino that promises never to check ID is one of the red flags we describe; the licences article explains who sets these rules.
Questions and answers
How long does a crypto casino KYC check take?
With clear documents it is often done within a day. It takes longer when a photo is blurry, a document is cropped, or the casino asks for proof of the source of funds.
Is it safe to send my ID to a crypto casino?
Upload only through the casino's own verification page or the verification service it links to, never by email or a chat link. Choose casinos whose licence you can check in a public register.
What if my name or address does not match?
That is the most common reason a check fails. Use your legal name and current address from the start. If you have moved, a recent bill or bank statement at the new address solves it.
What documents do casinos ask for?
Usually photo ID, proof of address and sometimes a selfie; for large amounts, proof of source of funds.
How long does verification take?
From minutes to a few days, depending on the casino and how clear the documents are.
Can I play without verifying?
Often yes, until a withdrawal or a threshold. Rocketpot's written threshold is $2,500.
Is my data safe?
Send documents only through the casino's own upload page, never by chat or email links.
Can a casino ask for ID after I win?
Yes. Most terms reserve the right to verify at any time, especially before payouts.
What is source of funds?
Proof of where your money came from, such as a payslip or exchange statement.
Will my exchange verification count?
No. The casino runs its own checks.
