Crypto sportsbook in Canada: one balance for casino and sport

Most crypto casinos on our board also take sports bets, from the same wallet. That is convenient, and it changes a few things about how you bet. Here is what to know before you put Bitcoin on a hockey game.

Casino and sportsbook on one balance

Eleven of the thirteen casinos on our payout board run a sportsbook alongside the casino. You deposit once, and the same balance covers slots, live tables and sports bets. BitStarz and 7Bit Casino are casino-only.

What changes when you bet in crypto

Your stake has a price. A bet of 0.001 BTC is worth a different number of dollars tomorrow. If that matters to you, bet from a USDT balance.

Odds are decimal. Most crypto sportsbooks show decimal odds by default: 2.50 means a $10 stake returns $25. Many let you switch to American odds in the settings.

Limits are written in coins or US dollars. Maximum stakes and maximum winnings per bet are set by each sportsbook and can differ by market. A large bet on a minor league may be capped lower than the same bet on a final.

Withdrawal rules are the casino's. A sportsbook win is paid through the same cashier, under the same caps and verification rules as casino winnings.

Markets Canadians look for

The crypto sportsbooks on our board cover the major North American leagues, including hockey, basketball, baseball and football, plus soccer, tennis, combat sports and esports. Live betting during the game is standard. Coverage of smaller leagues and props varies by sportsbook, so check the market before depositing for it.

Before your first crypto bet

  1. Check the sportsbook's rules page for settlement rules on overtime, postponed games and voided legs.
  2. Check the maximum win on the markets you bet most.
  3. Keep sports and casino bonuses apart. Read which wagering counts.
  4. Set a betting budget in dollars, separate from your casino budget.

Bet types at a crypto sportsbook

BetWhat you pickExample
Moneylinethe winnerMaple Leafs to win
Spread / puck linethe winner with a marginOilers −1.5 goals
Totalmore or fewer points or goalsover 6.5 goals
Parlayseveral picks on one ticket, all must winthree NHL moneylines
Propa player or game detaila player to score

A parlay multiplies the odds, and also the sportsbook's margin on each leg. Three legs at a 5% margin each cost far more than one single bet.

Crypto sports betting from Canada

For a Canadian, a crypto sportsbook covers the leagues most bets go on: the NHL first, then the NBA, MLB and NFL, with soccer and tennis close behind. Coverage of the CFL and of junior hockey varies between sportsbooks, so check the market list before depositing for a specific game.

Sportsbook wins are paid under the same withdrawal rules as casino wins. At Rocketpot, the US$5,000 monthly cap covers both; at Bitcasino.io, the weekly cap is 1,000,000 USDT; at Vave, wins above 50,000 USDT are paid in instalments. Our instant withdrawal page compares them.

A live game does not wait for a Bitcoin confirmation. If you top up during play, a fast network matters more than the coin.

How to fund and place a bet with crypto

  1. Buy the coin in Canadian dollars at a Canadian-registered exchange and move it to your own wallet.
  2. Copy the deposit address from the sportsbook's cashier, on the network it lists.
  3. Send a small test deposit, then the rest once it arrives.
  4. Open the market, check the odds and the maximum win, and add the selection to the bet slip.
  5. Enter the stake and confirm. The stake leaves your balance until the bet settles; only settled winnings can be withdrawn.

Sportsbook bonuses, rakeback and bankroll management

Sports bonuses come with conditions casino players rarely see. Most count only settled bets at a minimum price, often 1.50 to 2.00 in decimal odds; bets that are cashed out early, voided or placed on both sides of a market usually do not count. Some books pay rakeback instead: a share of the margin on your bets returned as cash, with no wagering. For a regular bettor, rakeback paid without conditions is often worth more than a large one-off bonus.

Bankroll management is simpler in USDT than in Bitcoin: decide your season's budget in dollars, split it into units of 1–2%, and bet in units rather than in whatever the balance happens to be worth that day.

Crypto sportsbooks and the Ontario market

Single-event sports betting has been legal in Canada since August 2021. Ontario opened a regulated market through iGaming Ontario in April 2022, and the books registered there take Canadian dollars, not crypto. Other provinces run their own lottery-corporation sites. Every crypto sportsbook on our board is licensed abroad, so disputes go to the operator and its licensing body, not to a Canadian regulator.

Trust and security in crypto betting

  • A licence number you can find in the register, not just a seal in the footer.
  • Published settlement rules for overtime, postponed games and voided legs.
  • A withdrawal clause that names a cap, or says plainly that there is none.
  • Two-factor login on the account, and a unique password.
  • Your own wallet for payouts, rather than leaving winnings on the sportsbook.

Provably fair and sports

Provably fair systems apply to in-house casino games such as dice and crash, not to sports betting. A sports result is a real-world event; what you can check is the settlement against the official result.

Questions and answers

Can I bet on the NHL with Bitcoin?

Yes, at the crypto sportsbooks on our board hockey is a standard market. You bet from your crypto balance, and winnings are paid in the same coin.

Are crypto betting odds different?

Odds are set by each sportsbook, in decimal format by default at most of them. The coin does not change the odds, but if you bet in BTC the dollar value of your stake and winnings moves with the price.

Do casino bonuses apply to sports bets?

Usually not. Casino and sports bonuses have separate terms, and a casino bonus often excludes sports betting from its wagering.

Which sports can I bet on with crypto?

Hockey, football, basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis and esports are standard; coverage varies by sportsbook.

Are odds shown in decimals?

Usually yes, with an option to switch format in the settings.

Is live betting available?

Yes, most crypto sportsbooks offer in-play markets.

How are bets settled in crypto?

From your coin balance, often displayed in dollars. Winnings return to the same balance.

Can I bet on the NHL?

Yes. Our NHL crypto betting guide explains moneyline, puck line and overtime rules.

What if a game is postponed?

Each sportsbook sets its own rule, often voiding the bet after a set time. Read the sports rules page.

Do Ontario sportsbooks accept Bitcoin?

No. Sportsbooks registered with iGaming Ontario take Canadian dollars by Interac, card or bank transfer, not crypto. A sportsbook that takes Bitcoin is licensed abroad, usually in Curaçao or Anjouan.

Is a sports bonus easier to clear than a casino bonus?

Not necessarily. Sports bonuses usually count only settled bets at minimum odds, often 1.50 to 2.00, and exclude cashed-out and void bets. Read the minimum odds before you accept one.
