Crypto blackjack: the lowest edge in the lobby

Played well, blackjack has the lowest house edge of any casino game, often around half a percent. But the rules at each table move that number. Here is what to check before you sit down with Bitcoin or USDT.

A 6:5 payout alone adds more than a full percentage point to the house edge. If a table pays 6:5, find another.

Basic strategy in one paragraph

Stand on hard 17 or more. Hit hard 12–16 when the dealer shows 7 or higher; stand when the dealer shows 2–6 (hit 12 against 2 or 3). Double 11 against anything but an ace, and 10 against 2–9. Always split aces and eights; never split tens or fives. A full chart covers soft hands and pairs; keep it open while you play.

Whatever the table, the payout on a blackjack decides most of the edge.

RNG, in-house or live

RNG blackjack from a studio shuffles every hand and plays fast. In-house blackjack at some crypto casinos is provably fair, so you can check the cards. Live blackjack from Evolution or Ezugi uses a real dealer and shoe, streamed in real time. See the live casino page.

3:2 or 6:5: the rule to check first

The single rule that costs a crypto blackjack player the most is the payout on a natural blackjack. At 3:2, a C$10 blackjack pays C$15. At 6:5, it pays C$12. That difference adds roughly 1.4% to the house edge, more than every other common rule change put together. Look for "Blackjack pays 3 to 2" on the table felt or in the rules panel before you sit down.

Bitcoin blackjack in practice

Bitcoin blackjack tables at crypto casinos come in three kinds: RNG tables from studios, in-house originals that are often provably fair, and live tables streamed from a studio. The maths above applies to all three. What differs is the pace: an RNG or in-house table can deal several hundred hands an hour, a live table far fewer. At a 0.5% edge, a C$5 stake over 300 hands costs about C$7.50 on average; the same stake at a live table over 60 hands costs about C$1.50. Choose the pace your budget fits.

From wallet to table: a first crypto blackjack session

  1. Fix the budget in Canadian dollars before any coin moves, for example C$200 for the evening.
  2. Pick the coin by deposit size. For under a few hundred dollars, a low-fee network beats Bitcoin on-chain (see the table below).
  3. Copy the cashier address and network, send a small test, then the rest.
  4. Open the rules panel of the table: 3:2 payout, dealer stands on soft 17, doubling after a split.
  5. Set the stake at 1–2% of the budget. C$2–4 per hand on C$200 gives enough hands for the edge, not luck, to decide the session.
  6. Withdraw in one transaction at the end, back to your own wallet.

Which coin suits a blackjack bankroll

Coin and networkArrives inFee on a C$100 depositBalance moves with
Bitcoin on-chain10–60 minutesvaries with load, can be several dollarsthe BTC price
Litecoina few minutescentsthe LTC price
USDT on TRC-201–3 minuteslownothing: pegged to the US dollar
Ethereum mainneta few minutescan be high at busy timesthe ETH price

Because blackjack's edge is so small, the coin can cost more than the game. A C$3 network fee on a C$100 deposit is 3%, six times what a 3:2 table keeps from a player using basic strategy over that same C$100 of stakes. A stablecoin also removes the second variable: a session that ends level in hands ends level in dollars.

Online gambling is a provincial matter. Ontario licenses private operators through iGaming Ontario; British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec, Alberta and the Atlantic provinces sell online casino games through their own lottery corporations. The crypto casinos on this site hold offshore licences from Curaçao or Anjouan, not provincial ones, and some of them, Vave among them, exclude Ontario in their restricted-country clauses. Read that clause for your province before depositing; if a dispute arises, no provincial regulator stands behind an offshore crypto casino.

Side bets and bonuses

Side bets are where blackjack's low edge disappears. Play them for fun, with a small share of the budget. And because blackjack is low-edge, casinos often count it for 10% or less of a bonus wagering requirement. The wagering guide shows how that adds up.

Live blackjack tables are usually streamed by Evolution.

Questions and answers

What is the house edge in blackjack?

With basic strategy and favourable rules, often around 0.5%. Unfavourable rules, such as 6:5 blackjack payouts, raise it sharply.

What is basic strategy?

The mathematically best decision for every combination of your hand and the dealer's up card: hit, stand, double or split. It is available as a simple chart.

Which rules matter most?

The blackjack payout (3:2 is good, 6:5 is bad), whether the dealer stands or hits on soft 17, doubling and splitting options, and the number of decks.

Can I play live blackjack with crypto?

Yes. Live tables from Evolution and Ezugi are carried by several casinos on our board, with stakes from your coin balance.

Is crypto blackjack provably fair?

In-house RNG blackjack at some crypto casinos is. Live tables use physical cards.

Does card counting work online?

Not in RNG games, which shuffle every hand. In live games, the shoe is usually reshuffled long before counting helps.

What are side bets?

Optional bets such as Perfect Pairs or 21+3. They pay more but carry a much higher house edge than the main game.

Does blackjack count toward bonus wagering?

Usually only partly, often 10% or less, or not at all. Check the bonus terms.

What stake should I use?

Small enough for many hands. Blackjack's swings are mild, so a budget of 50 to 100 stakes lasts a long session.

Can I play blackjack on my phone?

Yes, both RNG and live tables work in a mobile browser.
